The 10th WHSG meeting will take place in Sackville, NB, Canada in early August 2024! The meeting co-chairs, Julie Paquet (Environment and Climate Change Canada) and Diana Hamilton (Mount Allison University), are excited to welcome you to Atlantic Canada during the peak of Semipalmated Sandpiper migration through the region!
Our venue for the meeting will be the beautiful Mount Allison University campus ( https://mta.ca). Affordable accommodations will be available on campus, and meals will be available from Jennings Dining hall, known for its commitment to using local foods, fair trade coffee, and efforts to reduce its environmental footprint (https://mta.ca/current-students/student-life/eating-campus/sustainability-dining-hall). Additional dining options will be available from local restaurants in town, and residence rooms are equipped with refrigerators.
Sackville is a small, safe and welcoming town, with all amenities within easy walking distance of the university. Attendees arriving by air will fly into either Moncton NB (closest airport) or Halifax NS. We will arrange a shuttle service from Moncton, and there is bus service from the Halifax airport to Sackville.
We are looking forward to an exciting in person meeting (with options for partial online participation) with a full range of symposia, workshops, side meetings, and contributed oral and poster presentations. There will be a number of field trip options, including a field day in the middle of the meeting to give people the opportunity to explore the region and see the spectacle of Semipalmated Sandpiper migration up close. We will also host a banding workshop where participants will gain hands on experience with multiple shorebird species and have the opportunity to apply for NABC certification.
Preparations for the meeting are just beginning. Watch for our dedicated website in the coming months and make plans to travel to Sackville in 2024!
