The 11th WHSG meeting will take place in La Paz, Mexico in mid-November 2026! The meeting co-chairs, Daniel Galindo Espinosa and Georgina Brabata Dominguez (Universidad Autónoma de Baja California Sur [UABCS]; Centro de Investigación Científica y de Educación Superior de Ensenada-Unidad La Paz [CICESE-ULP]; Wildcoast, Terra Peninsular, A.C., Centro de Investigaciones Biológicas del Noroeste [CIBNOR, S.C.] y Birding Los Cabos), are excited to welcome you to sunny Mexico during the beginning of the shorebird austral summer.

La Paz is one of the fastest growing tourist centers in Mexico in the last 15 years, has many natural and cultural attractions (some cave paintings near the city) and is also considered one of the safest cities in the country. The best options we have considered for the meeting are the Grand Plaza Hotel (under renovation but expected to be operational by the end of 2023; and/or Hotel Perla, Hotel Araiza Palmira. The latter are on the coastal boardwalk and in the past have hosted other bird-related meetings (Pacific Seabird Group, Waterbird Society, Raptor Research Foundation), and many more scientific conferences. The cost to travel to La Paz can range from $USD 300-400 (domestic round trip); for cities south of the continent such as Panama, Bogota or Buenos Aires it can range from $USD 900-1500; to the north of the continent such as Anchorage up to $USD 900.

We are looking forward to an exciting in person meeting (with options for partial online participation) with a full range of symposia, workshops, side meetings, and contributed oral and poster presentations. There will be a number of field trip options.

Preparations for the meeting are just beginning. Watch for our dedicated website in the coming months and make plans to travel to La Paz in 2026!
