The 9th Meeting of the Western Hemisphere Shorebird Group was held virtually in Puerto Madryn, Argentina from 5 – 9 September 2022.
The meeting attracted 332 participants from 20 countries in the Western Hemisphere and 2 individuals from countries in Europe and 1 from Asia. There were 4 international plenary speakers, 10 symposia, 6 thematic sessions, and a total of 145 oral presentations and 25 poster presentations. In addition, there were four pre-conference workshops on the 5 September.

The 8th Meeting of the Western Hemisphere Shorebird Group was held in Panama City, Panama from 24-28 October 2019.
The meeting attracted 221 participants from 18 countries in the Western Hemisphere and 9 individuals from 5 countries in Europe. There were 4 international plenary speakers, 8 symposia, and a total of 214 oral presentations and 30 poster presentations. In addition, a number of workshops and special topic side-meetings were held.
Paracas, Peru – 2017

The meeting attracted 189 participants from 23 different countries, and had four international plenary speakers, ten symposia comprising 134 oral presentations, and 36 poster presentations.
Chincoteague, USA – 2015

The 6th Meeting of the Western Hemisphere Shorebird Group was held in Chincoteague, Virginia, from 12–16 September 2015.
During the meeting over 160 professionals and students gathered to present and discuss their shorebird-related research. This meeting comprised 7 symposia and multiple workshops.
Santa Marta, Colombia – 2013

The 5th Meeting of the Western Hemisphere Shorebird Group was held in the Caribbean city of Santa Marta, Colombia, from 17–21 September 2013.
This meeting attracted 137 attendees who enjoyed different options for a field trip, from Ciénaga Grande and Tayrona National Parks up to the Minca, as well as the gate of Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.
The meeting had a full program with four plenary speakers, 108 oral presentations including those in six symposia and six workshops, 21 posters, and two associated meetings.
Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada – 2011

The 4th Western Hemisphere Shorebird Group Meeting was held at Simon Fraser University, Burnaby near Vancouver, Canada from 11-15 August, 2011.
During the meeting, more than 150 professionals and advanced-degree students gathered to discuss all things shorebirds. Participants came from 11 countries in this hemisphere, plus Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and New Zealand.
Mazatlán, Mexico – 2009

The Third Meeting of the Western Hemisphere Shorebird Group was held in Mazatlán, Mexico during 9–13 March 2009.
This meeting consisted of four plenary lectures, eight symposia (three species-based and five on broader issues consisting of 56 papers), 35 general papers among six subject themes, and 21 posters.
It also had over 140 attendees from 11 Western Hemisphere countries and two other continents.
Maturín, Venezuela – 2007

The Second Meeting of the Western Hemisphere Shorebird Group was held in conjunction with the VIII Neotropical Ornithological Congress in Maturín, Venezuela, between 13–19 May 2007.
This meeting consisted of a round table discussion on the Western Hemisphere Shorebird Group and three symposia. Symposia included talks surrounding Neotropical endemics, Nearctic migrants, and site-based shorebird conservation.
In addition, six general papers and 12 posters on shorebirds were presented. Representatives from virtually all countries in the Western Hemisphere were present.
Boulder, Colorado – 2006

The Western Hemisphere Shorebird Group was conceived at the Shorebird Science in the Western Hemisphere meeting held in Boulder, Colorado from 27 February – 2 March 2006. The meeting was well attended, with participants from at least 10 Western Hemisphere countries and three other continents. There were 4 plenary lectures, 9 symposia, 43 general papers among 10 subject themes, and 34 posters.
